US Car Convention 2013 – overview

12.07.13 – day two

Alarm is ringing – but I don’t want to get up.. It’s early.. Why is the alarm even on? Ohhh… It’s so nice and cousy in bed and soo dark outside.. But I must wake up! It’s time to go. So we wake up, fast showering and aroung 4:30 we started our trip to Dresden.

The sun is not up jet, so it’s quite dark, but there are many cars despite that it’s so early. To understand how much fuel and money we will spend on fuel we will write a follow-up list. The drive till border of Latvia/Lithuania went very smooth. We saw a small part of sunrise, no border guards only truck patrol duty. Filled up gas tanks and drived further to the border of Lithuania/Poland.

There were border guards on the border as always, bet this time they didn’t show any signs of interest against us. And as there was few drops of rain, we exchanged some money for gas and drived further.

Poland always has been full with “misteries” and “pleasure”. Why in quotes? Because the biggest adventure this year, if we don’t count the wreckles drivers (they are there always, so we are kinda used to them) was made by dad’s ex colleague. He told that there was a new highway directly drom Warsaw to Dresden. And as our todays plan was to get to the finish (Dresden) we thought – why not to try that highway. But as always – never ending road works, bypasses and “excelent” sign position made us to wander around Warsaw and then Wroclaw, till we understood that this highway is not open and won’t be that soon.. So we started to drive to Berlin and then turn to Dresden highway.

Anyway we were driving from one side to another using maps and navigation, but those road works made it even worse. Made it to one traffic jam which was around 3 km long in one direction and around 10 km in other direction. Why? Because of road works on 2 line road, where one line was closed, so all the traffic was driven on one side only.

Driving further we saw few police cars, where few cops after seeing us started to smile. The clocked started to tick around 7 PM and we started to think about lunch. Only few hundred km left till the border of Poland/Germany as we stopped by one medium size Cafe. I don’t know if it was or not, but it looked like there we some bachelor and bachelorette partys. Because there were few girls groups and guy groups which called to each other with some pretty nasty words.. But that’s not the point of this post. And this might not be a big problem, but my front light turn signal lamp blowed up, so no right turning signal for me. We decided that I will go in front and my dad from back, so that it would be less chances that police would stop us because of not showing turn signals.

Long way behind (~1400 km), many strange things, many traffic jams, but finally around 11:40 PM we arrived in Dresden. As we drived closer to the meeting point we started to think – will we be one of the first cars like the last year or there will be more.. And our jaws fell out of the place when we arrived – almoust all the bordered area was full with the cars! We talked to our friend, one of the Orgteam Matheas (Big Thanks for the tickets!) and he said that there are around 360 cars already (there were 410 last year all together in meeting) and more are coming. We were glad that this meeting is rolling forward very good. Had some some and went to sleep. long day tomorrow.
