3rd Firebird generation

3rd_firebirdThe third generation was produced from 1982. – 1992. year. Since the federal mandate closed muscle era, GM began a new type of F-body era, which focused on the cars power “restraint.” The third generation was released in three submodel types: Firebird base,  Firebird S/E and Firebird Trans Am. This generation is unique in that nearly 60% of all the components were taken from the Chevrolet Camaro that made the cars abnormally similar. Firebird was the base model, which was similar to the Chevrolet Sport Coupe, Firebird S/E was the mid-level model, which could be equipped with all the facilities from Trans Am, but the Trans Am was a masterpiece. Camaro and Firebird visual appearance was altered comparing to second generation and biggest changes experienced the rear glass, which was placed at 60 degree angles to the frame, thus creating a rear glass roof hatchback. As a second major change point to mention are headlights, which were built in the bonnet and were lifted out, what became the biggest difference between the Firebird and Camaro. This generation of cars were available with the following types of engines:

90 hp 2.5L 4 cylinder Pontiac “Iron Duke” – the first time that the Firebird was available with 4 cylinders engine.

The second was offered a 102 hp 2.8L V6 engine.

And two 5.0L V8 engines.

In later years, generations were offered another form of engines, which were taken over from the Camaro, with some modifications.
